How to invest in Commercial Real Estate

Full Show Notes:

Investing in Commercial Real Estate

When people hear commercial real estate, they immediately think of office spaces. But commercial real estate is much more than that and boasts several different categories. Retail, industrial and warehouse, multi-family residential units, hospitality and hotels. These categories can be very overwhelming sometimes, especially when looking for ideal investment options to add to your portfolio.

According to Erik, the multi-family category, along with industrial, are the two areas where it is still fruitful. It helps to have some driver of population inflows into an area to get the most out of these two categories. It would help if you found an area that, at the local level, has a housing shortage. So, if you can see that there’s a shortage of housing in a particular locality and you can see the rationale for continued population influxes, and especially if you can see housing prices really high, then that’s a strong context for a multi-family investment that can make sense.
