The Birth Of Retirement

When it comes to defining retirement, everybody has their own view and ideologies about retirement. What most people don’t know is where the concept of retirement came from. Back in the day, a German chancellor by the name Otto Van Bismarck was under a lot of pressure from the opposition to create more opportunities for his people that he came up with a not so brilliant idea of silencing them. So, what he did was declare that every person beyond the age of 70 was disabled by age and therefore had to stop working. If he did that in today’s world, there would be lawsuits flying in left, right and center.

How Different Age Groups Define Retirement

Different age groups of people have different definitions and understanding about the word retirement. How a teenager defines it, is not the same way a 60-year-old will define it. This is primarily because different age groups have different needs and different approaches to life. However, the two things that remain constant are more time and more freedom. Whether it’s more time to do what you want or more freedom to do what you want whenever you want, everybody wants to have more time and more freedom.

The Side Hustle Mentality

When it comes to retirement, the main goal is to pull resources from as many sources as possible. With this in mind, more and more people are turning to side hustles to create more opportunities for themselves. From freelancing to working on side projects, there is usually that extra thing you can do to reach your true potential. But, there is a catch. Before you jump into a new side hustle, make sure it’s something you enjoy doing, and it’s something you are passionate about.

Test Driving Your Retirement Plan

Retirement is that point in your life where you get to do the things you enjoy doing. So, if you enjoy doing stuff like golfing on the weekends, what’s stopping you from doing that now? It does not have to be a year’s long break playing golf, just set aside a day or an hour and enjoy your mini-retirement. If you don’t enjoy whatever it is that you do during that time, then you better stop planning for it.
